Dear Parents and Carers
We have begun Term 2 with a number of exciting events: the very successful Year 6 Canberra trip, several sporting teams have been out, the Year 4 camp takes place this week and rehearsals for SHREK are demanding and focused. Four lambs have been born on the farm since Friday. The oval has been marked up for Athletics and work is underway bringing our new long jump pits to completion. Our campus is alive with opportunities for students to choose to engage in learning beyond the classroom. It was also good to see so many of you engage with our Parent Teacher interviews at the end of last term and the beginning of this term.

Today I want to update you on our challenges with school uniforms. We heard from School Locker on Friday that they anticipate re-opening on 13th May. Once we have confirmation of that date we will notify you without delay. Until then they will continue to supply online orders with free postage. The turnaround time for this service is quick.

The new soft shell black jacket (to be worn ONLY with the formal uniform) is available on Mondays at Springwood for students to try for size. The size range is available to Carbrook for the rest of the week. The inconvenience of School Locker’s premises unexpected closure as the weather cools, was beyond anyone’s control, and I thank you for your patience during this time.
Together we face the complication of low stock items following the stock damage that led to the closure of the store. This was unforeseeable. Please do your best to navigate these challenges and get in touch with the school if your personal circumstances require a workaround. Please also remember that any College uniform item in good condition may still be worn so you can utilise the Facebook page where parents sell on second hand uniforms. https://www.facebook.com/share/7obvaFPCeaHMcEye/?mibextid=A7sQZp
Your child may have mentioned to you that we are in the process of updating our sports uniform for the secondary students. We are managing the design and consultation with students in house and, following consultation with images of possible designs, we will acquire samples for our students to see.
Please be reminded that our motivation is to make students more comfortable through a more contemporary updated design and to save on uniform costs as there are fewer changes to the uniform as a student progresses through the College.
Any uniform item worn in Year 6 can be worn in Year 7. Students did, however, make the choice to wear the new formal hat from Year 7 rather than the purple hat worn in Year 6.
I hope this answers some of your more urgent concerns about uniforms. Staff are monitoring uniforms in our effort to keep our students looking smart as there is a high correlation between the way they wear the uniform and their attitude to being part of the College community.
We appreciate your support of the College uniform requirements for students. A problem we are seeing is students wearing items from the sports and formal uniform interchangeably. This has never been acceptable. Making changes to a uniform can be challenging and our staff are keen to work with you to ensure that Calvary students continue to represent the school with pride both on and beyond College premises.
I look forward to seeing many of you at the performance of SHREK on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th May as well as at the many upcoming events such as the Mothers’ Day events, athletics carnivals and Junior Showcase. Both campuses present your child with many opportunities to be part of our rich and vibrant community. I love seeing them learning and growing especially when they are supported through things they find stretch them. Growing the whole child is key.
Yours sincerely
Cherylynne Gostelow
