Co-curriculars Term 2
Please click here for more information
At Calvary, we are committed to educating the whole child, and one way we do this is through our Co-Curricular Program. We encourage all students to get involved by joining at least one co-curricular activity or club. If your child hasn’t signed up yet, we invite you to review the co-curricular timetable together and find an activity that sparks their interest. These opportunities help students grow, connect, and develop new skills beyond the classroom.
We look forward to seeing them thrive in their chosen activities!

Parent Session - Dr Judith Locke
Building Confident & Capable Kids
16 July & 17 July
We are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Locke, clinical psychologist, parenting expert, and author of The Bonsai Child and Raising Anxiety, to speak with our parent community.
Dr Locke specialises in practical, research-backed strategies that help children become more confident, resilient, and independent. Drawing on her extensive experience with families and schools, Dr Locke will share insights into:
- Encouraging healthy independence in children
- Setting effective boundaries and routines
- Managing anxiety and building resilience
- Fostering motivation, responsibility, and problem-solving skills
- Practical advice about topics such as navigating homework and managing the busy morning routine.
Dr Locke’s advice is engaging and highly actionable—offering reassurance and tools for parents navigating the challenges of raising children in today’s world.
We invite all parents to attend these valuable sessions and learn how to support your children in becoming capable, adaptable, and confident young people.
Child minding will be available on both nights, with fun and supervised activities. On the first night, children can enjoy a Junior School disco and movie, while the second night will feature a relaxed movie session. Snacks and drinks will be provided each evening. Please use this Trybooking link to register yourself and your children.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Over the next two weeks we are discussing the importance of emotional regulation as a vital life skill. In doing so we will consider the language our students use—such as “I’m triggered”—can be a powerful indicator of escalating emotions. Teaching children to downshift—to pause, breathe, and create space between emotion and reaction—helps them manage strong feelings and respond more thoughtfully.
In Raising Confident, Capable Kids, Judith Locke explains that “children don’t need rescuing from every emotional discomfort—they need tools to face it, learn from it, and move forward with growing confidence.” Our goal is to support students in recognising their emotions, giving them strategies to cope, and encouraging resilience. This video further illustrates how stepping back can help children learn to manage challenges independently. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/_x-20u08cro
Mobile Phone Use
We’ve recently noticed more students using their mobile phones to contact parents directly when they are feeling unwell or wish to go home. While we understand their need for comfort, this is not in line with school policy. In these situations, students are required to visit the Health Hub, where they will be assessed by our nursing staff. If necessary, the nurse will then contact parents or guardians to arrange for the student to go home.
Following this process helps us ensure each child’s wellbeing is properly managed and allows us to maintain accurate records as part of our duty of care. Students who do not follow this process and instead use their phones may have their devices temporarily confiscated and potentially be served with a detention upon their return to school. We appreciate your support in helping students understand and follow these guidelines to keep our school environment safe and focused on learning.
Uniform Expectations
During recent uniform checks, our staff have noticed a number of Middle and Senior School students wearing items that are either damaged or no longer fit properly. In particular, sport shorts should be mid-thigh length or longer—a helpful guide is that your child’s fingers should not extend past the end of the shorts when their arms are resting by their side. We kindly ask parents to review the fit of their child’s sports shorts and purchase new ones if they do not meet the uniform expectations.
As the weather continues to cool, we also encourage families to place orders for the black soft shell jacket, which is the required outerwear for formal uniforms moving forward. Additional stock is expected to arrive this term, so we recommend purchasing or pre-ordering soon to ensure your child is prepared for the season ahead.
College Athletics & Cross Country Carnival Update
Following the ongoing and continuing heavy rains, the Carbrook campus oval is far too wet for the required work to be completed to ready it in time for the carnivals proposed for Week 8. I have made the decision to postpone the carnivals to the following dates:
- Junior School Stages 2&3 - Wednesday 23 July (Term 3 Week 2)
- Middle & Senior School Stages 4-6 - Friday 25 July (Term 3 Week 2)
This change means our already postponed Cross Country will be delayed yet again and will take place in Week 3 of Term 4 on Wednesday 22 October.
I apologise for the inconvenience this causes you as you seek to shift your responsibilities to make the time to support your children at these events.
Thank you again for your patience and support as we work through the damage from Cyclone Alfred and ongoing wet weather. I hold on to the promise that once we are through this challenging time our grounds and buildings will be in much better shape than before as we take a ‘no quick fixes’ approach.

This won’t replace the existing pillars as they define our house culture, but it’s a chance to add a bit more personality and spirit.
HERE'S HOW THEY CAN GET INVOLVED
🦁 1 - Select their house
🦅 2 - Suggest an animal that captures their house values
🐢 3 - Give it a name
Voting closes COB tomorrow, and then we’ll reveal the winning mascots names and animals.
