Head of School Community & Wellbeing, Carbrook Junior School - Zoe O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers,

Once again, this week has reminded us of the need to be flexible, as our Cross Country event has been rescheduled. While these changes can be disappointing, they also provide valuable opportunities for our students to practise adaptability and resilience, skills that we value at Calvary Christian College.

Following on from Dr Judith Locke’s recent visit, this is a great moment to reinforce a simple but powerful approach to building resilience in children: acknowledge their feelings, without removing the challenge. When children experience small setbacks, such as changes to events or plans, it is an opportunity for them to learn how to manage disappointment, reset, and move forward. Phrases like, “I can see this is frustrating, but I know you can handle it,” help build confidence and independence over time.

At school, we continue to support students in developing these skills, encouraging them to approach change with a positive mindset.

Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to grow resilient, capable learners.

CAPA Update

Introducing the Double Bass!

Has your child every considered learning the Double Bass? At Calvary, we have a lonely Double Bass who is looking for someone to love! Lessons are a part of our Strings Program, where students have a group lesson, instrument hire, ensemble membership and books all included ($300 for the year).  However, the Double Bass is a special friend – we’d love to see someone loving this instrument for as long as they’re at Calvary! If your child has ever considered having an instrument friend as big as they are – please contact Kerryn.vezos@calvarycc.qld.edu.au to organize a ‘play’ date!

Calvary Orchestra

What’s an Orchestra? When the powers of Woodwind, Brass, Percussion and Strings combine!

We have over 30 students currently involved in the Orchestra – from Grades 3 – 11.  These students work hard individually and have auditioned to play in our largest music group. We are playing several different pieces that are fun to learn – it’s not ‘Mission Impossible’ after all!

We will be sharing performances at Carbrook Junior School Assembly in Week 9 and will perform at MSS and Springwood Assemblies in Term Two.

If your child has an instrument they play and would like to be in Orchestra – please let Kerryn.vezos@calvarycc.qld.edu.au know – we love to welcome new players to join us. Rehearsals are Thursday afternoons at Carbrook Campus.
