Parent Session - Dr Judith Locke

Building Confident & Capable Kids

Wednesday 16 July

We are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Locke, clinical psychologist, parenting expert, and author of The Bonsai Child and Raising Anxiety, to speak with our parent community.

Dr Locke specialises in practical, research-backed strategies that help children become more confident, resilient, and independent. Drawing on her extensive experience with families and schools, Dr Locke will share insights into:

  • Encouraging healthy independence in children
  • Setting effective boundaries and routines
  • Managing anxiety and building resilience
  • Fostering motivation, responsibility, and problem-solving skills
  • Practical advice about topics such as navigating homework and managing the busy morning routine.

Dr Locke’s advice is engaging and highly actionable—offering reassurance and tools for parents navigating the challenges of raising children in today’s world.

We invite all parents to attend these valuable sessions and learn how to support your children in becoming capable, adaptable, and confident young people.

Child minding will be available on both nights, with fun and supervised activities. On the first night, children can enjoy a Junior School disco and movie, while the second night will feature a relaxed movie session. Snacks and drinks will be provided each evening. Please use this Trybooking link to register yourself and your children.

The Junior School disco and pizza night held in the Calvary Community Centre (CCC) from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. The disco will run in conjunction with the Judith Locke Parent Session and will be coordinated by Creative Dance Company.

The Disco is only for students whose parents are attending the Judith Locke Session.

Registrations made before the end of term will go into the draw for a door prize, which will be announced at the disco!

Head of Junior School - Zoe O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers,

Your child’s safety matters to us! Today, our students participated in “think you know” presentations. Each session has been tailored to promote age-appropriate cyber safety. The Australian Police draw on up-to-date research, real life case studies and reports to inform their program. This has then been followed up by classroom teachers who are able to speak more deeply into the appropriate use of technology as a tool.

As we approach the final week of Term 2, please be reminded to read the uniform updates posted through these communications, so that your child can start Term 3 strong, with the correct uniform.

State of Origin - Show Your Colours

Next Wednesday is the State of Origin match and for many Queenslanders, this presents an opportunity to ‘show your colours’ and celebrate your identity as a Queenslander – either as someone born in Queensland or a ‘naturalised Queenslander’ such as me! It is also a great moment for us to teach our students about diversity and FRIENDLY competition as some choose to support New South Wales.

While we have our regular student free dress day to end the term next Friday, I think it worth celebrating your team and colours if you choose to on Wednesday. To make this easier and more fun for our student body ALL students are free to either wear an item in blue or red, along with their regular uniform for the day.

Enjoy the day, celebrating your state OR choose to treat the day as a regular school day – the choice lies with you. Let’s have fun together as a community that embraces our differences and can engage in friendly competition.

All students partaking in this event will be required to bring a gold coin donation to support our Mission Trip to the Philippines later this year.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with your respective Head of School Mrs O'Donnell.
