Parent Session - Dr Judith Locke

Building Confident & Capable Kids

Wednesday 16 July

We are delighted to welcome Dr Judith Locke, clinical psychologist, parenting expert, and author of The Bonsai Child and Raising Anxiety, to speak with our parent community.

Dr Locke specialises in practical, research-backed strategies that help children become more confident, resilient, and independent. Drawing on her extensive experience with families and schools, Dr Locke will share insights into:

  • Encouraging healthy independence in children
  • Setting effective boundaries and routines
  • Managing anxiety and building resilience
  • Fostering motivation, responsibility, and problem-solving skills
  • Practical advice about topics such as navigating homework and managing the busy morning routine.

Dr Locke’s advice is engaging and highly actionable—offering reassurance and tools for parents navigating the challenges of raising children in today’s world.

We invite all parents to attend these valuable sessions and learn how to support your children in becoming capable, adaptable, and confident young people.

Child minding will be available on both nights, with fun and supervised activities. On the first night, children can enjoy a Junior School disco and movie, while the second night will feature a relaxed movie session. Snacks and drinks will be provided each evening. Term 2 Clubs

Co-curricular Clubs

At Calvary, we are committed to educating the whole child, and one way we do this is through our Co-Curricular Program. We encourage all students to get involved by joining at least one co-curricular activity or club. If your child hasn’t signed up yet, we invite you to review the co-curricular timetable together and find an activity that sparks their interest. These opportunities help students grow, connect, and develop new skills beyond the classroom.

We look forward to seeing them thrive in their chosen activities!

Coming Up...

Year 5 Camp 2-4 June, Assembly

Head of Junior School - Zoe O'Donnell

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our vibrant community has gone from strength to strength. The Jungle Book closing performance was outstanding and a credit to all the staff and students who  showed so much commitment to performing with excellence. The excellence was then continued on Saturday, when our Sports Aerobics teams competed in their first competition of the season. Each team placed - with some of our students performing for the very first time.

This week, our students have been reminded at assembly that they have advocacy over themselves while they are at school. We explored healthy friendships and how we can show respect to each other. I would encourage you to ask your child about how they feel and show respect, our hope is that this will translate to the home environment also.

College Athletics & Cross Country Carnival Update

Following the ongoing and continuing heavy rains, the Carbrook campus oval is far too wet for the required work to be completed to ready it in time for the carnivals proposed for Week 8. I have made the decision to postpone the carnivals to the following dates:

  • Junior School Stages 2&3  - Wednesday 23 July  (Term 3 Week 2)
  • Middle & Senior School Stages 4-6 - Friday 25 July (Term 3 Week 2)

This change means our already postponed Cross Country will be delayed yet again and will take place in Week 3 of Term 4 on Wednesday 22 October.

I apologise for the inconvenience this causes you as you seek to shift your responsibilities to make the time to support your children at these events.

Thank you again for your patience and support as we work through the damage from Cyclone Alfred and ongoing wet weather. I hold on to the promise that once we are through this challenging time our grounds and buildings will be in much better shape than before as we take a ‘no quick fixes’ approach.

This won’t replace the existing pillars as they define our house culture, but it’s a chance to add a bit more personality and spirit.

HERE'S HOW THEY CAN GET INVOLVED

🦁 1 - Select their house
🦅 2 - Suggest an animal that captures their house values
🐢 3 - Give it a name

An On-Line form is available by: CLICKING HERE.  Voting will be closing soon.

Thanks for encouraging your student to be part of this exciting chapter.
