Deputy Principal, Juniors School - Kim Winton

Dear Calvary Families,

Thank you for a wonderful year in the Junior School. It has been such a privilege to journey with your children, and we are genuinely grateful for your partnership. The events of the last few weeks reflect the life and joy your children bring to our community, and we could not be prouder!

As we head into the holidays, I wanted to remind you of the changes to national laws regarding the minimum age for children using online apps, social media platforms, and YouTube accounts. These updates take effect from 10 December 2025, and the Safety Act implemented in January 2026. It aims to strengthen online safety and ensure that our children are accessing digital spaces in age-appropriate and well-supported ways. The lead up to this is a great opportunity to check in with your child about the apps they’re using at home and chat about safe and healthy online habits.

Please also be reminded of our school expectations regarding devices as these are in place to protect our children throughout the school day. The Parent Manual has been updated for 2026 and states:

Junior School students should only bring mobile phones to school under special circumstances for which parents will be asked to complete an authorisation form (Link to Form). The phone will remain the responsibility of the student but will be held at the office during school hours. Students must sign in their phone on arrival to school (from 8:15am) and can collect it at the end of the school day (after 3pm). Any device must remain in student’s bags until they can sign them into the health hub. They may not be on their phone while on school grounds at any time. Smart watches or internet connected devices are NOT permitted in the Junior School. Our camping program for Stages 2 & 3 will have rules specific to devices, smart watches and phones. Please read our camp information carefully if your child is going on camp. Students who breach these expectations will have their phone or watch confiscated for a period of time and parents contacted.

More information about the Online Safety Act can be found here: On Line Safety Act

Thank you again for your ongoing support. On behalf of me, Zoe, Andy and the whole Junior School Team, we wish you and your family a refreshing break, a joyful Christmas, and a safe and happy holiday season.
