Dear Parents and Carers,

I love this quote by passionate inquiry researcher, Kath Murdoch;

Young people are capable, competent, resilient and curious about the world around them. When their agency is nurtured, they can positively influence their lives and take action to improve the world around them.   (Getting Personal with Inquiry Learning, 2022, p.49).

Children need and deserve to have an education that is personal, relevant, and meaningful to them. To do this, they need to be seen as valuable contributors to the process of designing learning.  Where am I going with this?

... Social Justice Expo

The Social Justice Expo, (or any learning Expo we work towards each year), has so much more going on than just a display of artwork, a PowerPoint or writing piece. Having an audience to share their learning with, provides next level meaning and purpose to the learning journey for our students. Yes, it is a challenge for them to work towards a goal or meet a deadline for items to be completed. It’s tricky for some children who need a confidence boost to feel they can talk to an audience about their learning. But – they gain SO much when they push through this and find success on the other side. Every child now has a reference point they can use to remind them that they can influence and teach others, and that what they have learned is important.

Parents, thank you for being a part of this. Your support and the value you place on your child’s education, is felt and noticed by them. I hope you enjoyed our Social Justice Expo.

Father’s Night Community Event

Last Friday we had over 400 people come along and enjoy our annual Father's Night Event.  We love it when our community comes together, enjoy these occasions and make special memories.  It was great seeing our dad's (and some of our mum's) out there enjoying the obstacle courses, jumping castles and games.

Showcase

There are a large number of students across the college enjoying the CAPA (Performing Arts) program. Showcase is an event where you will see students’ individual instrumental performances, as well as ensembles, orchestral and dance performances. Come along and enjoy a musical trip around the globe as they perform pieces from all different countries.

Showcase rehearsal is next Thursday 7 September in preparation for the Saturday 9 September Evening event.

There are a number of Springwood students involved and we can’t wait to see them, and others perform.

Drought Angels - Supplies Collection

Message from our Stage 3 Students
As we come to the end of our Social Justice unit, we are encouraging the students to put their learning into action.
We have learnt that so many children all around the world, and even in our own backyard, don't have access to everything they need to succeed in life.
We are partnering with Drought Angels to donate much needed school items for children affected by the on going tough times that our farmers face.
Please bring items to the Office at anytime until Friday 8 September where they will be packed and sent with our MSS students to Drought Angels head office in Chinchilla.

Pupil Free Day

Tomorrow is a day off for students, and a day of learning for our staff. We love what we do, and tomorrow will be a day of professional development and team planning to ensure we are always forward focused.

Happy Father’s Day to all our dads and father figures! I hope you get to enjoy a great weekend, celebrated and honoured as you deserve.
