Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s Science Week!

We have had exploding Pepsi bottles, marble runs, paper helicopters and the Street Science crew present some amazing experiments, helping us celebrate Science Week. Tomorrow, our celebration of science continues as students take part in an experiment showcase. Held in the Hub at first break, if your child is interested, they can bring along their science projects and demonstrate their science knowledge and skills to their peers.

District Athletics and Futsal Champion of Champions

We have had some very exciting results in sport this year. Most recently, our 11 Y.O. Girls Futsal team won Champion of Champions at the Australian Futsal Schools Tournament. An outstanding effort after playing seven matches on the day.

Earlier this week, 14 students from Stage 2 and 3 qualified and participated in the Logan District Athletics Carnival at Sheldon College. Competing in track and field events, all students did our college proud. Charlotte Snelling took first place in the 800m, and Lily Wilson achieved 2nd place in the 100 and 200m finals, as well as placing 3rd in the discus event.

Congratulations to everyone, for your outstanding effort and display of determination and commitment.

Good News Week

Next week is Good News Week at the College. Good News Week is the renamed Prayer and Mission Week and the goal of the week is to acknowledge that while we so often are inundated with the bad news in the world, there is in fact good news and amazing things happening that we should focus on, in addition to having the ‘Good News’ of the Gospel.

Throughout the week, our Year 6 students are running activities at break times with the themes of:

  • Good Shoes (sport activities),
  • Good Chews (bake sale),
  • Good Moves (dance club) and
  • Good Views (picture competition)

Tomorrow a flyer will come home to remind students of everything they can be involved in.

Compassion Child

Inclusive in our Formation program are service learning opportunities for our students. We believe that character and skills can be taught, and these develop over time in the right environment. Each year level from Prep – Year 12 has a Compassion sponsor child. Good News Week next week, will place a spotlight on this, with lots of engaging activities run by our Year 6 students for the rest of the school to take part in. Thursday first break they are holding a bake sale to raise funds towards Compassion.

There are so many ways our students and their families can be involved in the life of the college. One of the favourites is our annual Father’s Night. Tickets are available now for this Springwood community event coming up on Friday 25 August. We hope to see you there.
