Dear Parents and Carers,

Earlier this week I had the privilege of attending the Associated Christian Schools Leadership Summit. The Live in Love and Unity theme reinforced the importance of our college strategy; What matters most is formation of character and faith. Yesterday, as our Year 1 students celebrated and shared their expression of the character virtues Joy and Self-Control in Assembly, it made my heart sing to see the character of Christ expressed in a meaningful way to our little ones.

Eisteddfod Success

Congratulations to our Junior School Voices Choir and the Middle and Senior Chorale choir on your outstanding achievement at the Beenleigh Eisteddfod this week. All Calvary choirs have been rehearsing towards this goal and they should be proud of their achievement. Voices receiving 2nd place and Chorale 3rd in their categories. Well done!

40 Years of Calvary – Time Capsule

This coming Monday morning, we will hear from special guests who are deeply connected to the vision and shaping of our college.  The Time Capsule service will be held at the Undercover Area, which might be a little chilly this time of year, but it is the site of the original opening of the Springwood campus on 27 July 1985. The service begins at 9am and parents, Alumni, past staff are welcome to attend.

Science Week

In Week 5, we are celebrating all things Science! We will kick things off, on Monday 5 August, with a whole school incursion by MAD Science, presenting a fun and engaging science experiment show at the church. Church pick-up option might be preferred that afternoon. Throughout the week, fun science experiments will happening at break times for students to take part in.

Good News Week

The Good News Week has been rescheduled to Week 9 of this Term.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused but look forward to seeing our students lean into prayer and being, and bringing, the Good News to the community through their gifts and talents.

NAPLAN Results Distribution

The NAPLAN data has arrived and is ready to be distributed to the students who completed these tests in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. In early Week 4, students will receive their NAPLAN data in a sealed envelope. If you would like to discuss your child’s results, please contact your child’s class teacher to arrange a suitable time. NAPLAN data constitutes one piece, out of a collection, of data that the College uses to make decisions around student learning. In the near future, once the College has been provided digital copies of these results,  we will upload NAPLAN results to Parent Lounge in the Academic Report section.

Book Club/ Book Week

Scholastic Book Club orders will close today, Thursday 25 July. Every order is connected to points that the school receives to use for purchasing books for our library. Orders can be placed online through Scholastic www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP

Students, start thinking about your Book Week costume idea. Book Week is coming up and our parade at 9:00am will replace the usual Assembly from 2:00pm on Wednesday 21 August.

School Refusal Data

As part of our ongoing efforts to better support our students and their families, we are conducting research into the impact of school refusal. School refusal can be a challenging experience for both children and parents and understanding its effects is crucial in helping us provide the necessary support and resources.

We are reaching out to ask for your assistance in this important research. If your child has ever experienced school refusal that caused you concern, we kindly request that you share your experiences by filling out the attached survey. Your insights will be invaluable in helping us understand the scope and nature of this issue within our school community.

Rest assured that all information provided will be kept confidential and will be used solely for this research. Your participation is entirely voluntary, however, your contribution will play a significant role in shaping the support systems we can offer towards our students and their families.

To participate, please click the link to access the survey.  School Refusal Survey Link

We appreciate your time and willingness to help us in this important endeavour. Should you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
