Assembly, Under 8's Day and Prep Tours

Dear Parents and Carers,

Delivering an educational program that recognises the unique, complex, and fearfully wonderful nature of our children takes a team effort. We invite you to explore some of the research and programs we have available, to support that special link between school and home.

“Am I Overparenting?”

If you have not yet had a chance to watch the short video posted by our Counsellor, Byron Hunt, do yourself a favour and check it out.  Counsellor Hunt - Am I Overparenting?

At Calvary, we have been engaging in the research of Dr Judith Locke on parenting styles and the impact these can have on our children’s levels of resilience and success. Our aim is to partner with you to provide your child with the skills necessary to fail and try again. We know that with failure comes learning and through learning comes growth as well as confidence and even resilience to face even harder challenges.

If you would like to delve deeper into this topic, we would recommend reading The Bonsai Child by Dr Judith Locke.

Friendology

Our counselling team have been facilitating Friendology lessons in our classrooms. This is to help grow our students’ understanding of what healthy friendships look like, and how to respond when friendships are tricky. If you are interested in learning the Friendology concepts and language so you can support your child at home, we invite you to take advantage of a FREE Parent Membership to access hundreds of resources that will allow you to learn the same strategies being taught in the classroom, reinforcing the important messages of empowerment, self-compassion, & kindness at home.

Athletics Carnival - Stages 2&3

Next Thursday, 23 May, our Stage 2&3 Athletics Carnival will be held at the Carbrook campus. Students will travel by bus to and from this event. Please ensure they have a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water. There is an option for ordering food from the Mango Cafe. Please use the Tuckshop on-line ordering system, as per ordering from Springwood Tuckshop, via the App or the website.

We are looking for parent volunteers to help out. Volunteers will follow their child’s age group around throughout the day and help the teacher leading each event, particularly the field events of Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put. Any parents willing to volunteer please email Tim McInnes tim.mcinnes@calvarycc.qld.edu.au with:

    • your name
    • availability for the carnival (e.g. full day, morning, afternoon)
    • your child’s name

Further information is available here:  Stg 2&3 Athletics Carnival

Under 8's Day & Prep Tours

Friday 31 May is a very exciting day for our little ones. Our Pre Prep – Year 2 students will enjoy a fun – filled morning as they explore a variety of hands-on activities, including a jumping castle, petting zoo, fire truck visit and more. Under 8’s kicks off from 9am. Parent helpers are welcome and appreciated! We are running tours through the Prep room from 8:30am for the Calvary and wider community.   Further information is available here.

Community Night – Mum’s Night Off!

There are many in our community who play the role of ‘mum’ in the lives of our students. We hope you were blessed over the weekend, celebrating Mother’s Day. The blessing can continue by clicking on the link below to register for our upcoming Pizza and Movie Community Night. If you have never been to one of these events, it’s a fun way to spend the afternoon, parents chatting while children play. Mario Brothers will be playing on the big screen while Mr E and the team fire up the pizza oven.

In the event of Wet Weather we will be screening the film in the Undercover Area.  Mum's Night Tickets

We hope to see everyone there.

Uniform / School Locker Update

School Locker stores will re-open on Friday 24 May.

Following some significant stock losses, not all sizes of all garments will be available. Stock has been re-ordered and School Locker expects to be fully stocked by the end of June.

For the rest of this term, please send your children to school in any Calvary uniform garment you have that is in good repair. This will mean there may be days your child wears a formal jacket with a sports uniform or vice versa.

We ask that students wear their uniforms neatly and continue to respect shoe,  jewellery, hair and makeup requirements.

Thank you for your patience through this challenging time for School Locker.

Calvary Intercampus Bus Service

This message is for families that use our before and afterschool Intercampus Bus Service:

All students have now received their new 2024 Student ID cards.  All bus students are required to swipe their ID cards when boarding and disembarking from the bus.

Utilising student ID cards ensures:

  • Accurate tracking of all students using the bus service, enabling correct charging.
  • Provides parental tracking capabilities via the app, receiving email alerts when students board and disembark the bus.
  • Enhanced efficiency during the boarding and disembarking processes.

Failure to utilize Student ID cards for bus trips during Term 2 will result in an administrative fee of $1 per trip as these trips must be manually entered.  In the event of the newly issued ID cards being lost, replacement cards can be purchased at Carbrook Reception at a cost of $5.

Key points to remember:

  • Rollcall accounts must maintain a positive balance for students to utilize the service. Credit can be added via the Rollcall app.
  • It is preferable that a booking is made via the Rollcall app for every trip taken on the bus service.
