Being a Prep to Year 12 private college with almost 1,000 students across our campuses means there is a lot that goes on in the engine room, to keep it humming. Of course, our teachers are on the front line, educating our students but there are also many teams behind the scenes like admin, nurses, finance and grounds team to mention a few.

Another one of those spaces is occupied by our amazing and fun-loving counselling team. And with that, please say hello to Alison Stone, Byron Hunt & Tanya Tennant

Alison (pictured left) has been a familiar face to the Calvary community for the past 5 years. As a School Counsellor since 2021, she has been dedicated to supporting students from P-6 at both Carbrook and Springwood campuses, with most of her time spent at Springwood.

Prior to joining Calvary, Alison acquired extensive experience over 15 years in various roles in the Child Protection, Community and Education sectors, supporting children, young people and their families. More recently, she has been involved with Minds and Hearts and Kids Helpline, providing young people with the counselling and support they need.

Outside work, Alison spends her time drinking coffee, while unashamedly avoiding the housework. She shares her home with her husband Andrew and two bautiful children, who also attend Calvary.

What makes Calvary special to Alison?

I am so grateful for the sense of community that Calvary embodies and the range of characters we get to work with on a daily basis. The school has been a place where I have grown, been encouraged and believed in. As a parent, I have personally witnessed the same support given to every student, allowing them to flourish and reach their full potential.

Byron (pictured middle) has been working as a counsellor at Calvary since 2018. First, in a part-time role for high school, then going full-time in 2021 in his current Prep to Year 12 role. Byron has worked across both campuses over the last few years however mainly works at our Carbrook campus now.

Byron loves to spend time with his wife Nicola and their two children James age 5 and Laura aged 3. Byron is a big time supporter of Liverpool Football Club and loves all things football (soccer).

“Why Calvary?

I love the people, and importantly, spending time with the students. Calvary has always been very focused on the growth of the whole student and not just academic growth. I have always felt supported and valued in all areas I have found myself at Calvary. Honestly, I can’t see myself anywhere else.

And finally, meet Tanya (pictured right). As the newbie to the Counselling team, she began her Calvary journey at the start of 2023, spending her time running groups, and educating about mental health and wellbeing.

Tanya's downtime is spent with her semi-grown-up children, Charlotte (20), Will (17) & Joe (15) but it is her fur babies, Moses and Archie, who seem to enjoy the attention the most these days!

Why Calvary?

I feel so at home here and truly believe in my purpose, working with our students. The whole team is incredibly friendly and supportive of each other’s skills and talents. A sense of excellence and developing our best self with the gentleness that we are human and not always perfect. It is such a blessing to enjoy where you work each day.
