Rising Star: Grace’s Musical Journey
At Calvary Christian College, we love celebrating the unique talents and passions of our students — and Year 11 student Grace is a shining example of someone pursuing her musical dreams with passion and purpose.
Grace’s singing journey began just a couple of years ago when she attended a “Summer Camp” hosted by Performance Studios. That one event sparked something special, and she hasn’t looked back since. Under the expert guidance of vocal coach Lisa Lockland-Bell, Grace began to develop her voice and confidence, quickly falling in love with performing.
In addition to her vocal coaching, Grace is mentored by Professor Dave Spicer from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where she is extending her knowledge and skills in musicianship, jazz, and performance.
Grace has also made her mark in the competitive scene, earning impressive results and feedback at the Ipswich Eisteddfod over the past few years. Her talent and dedication have taken her to live stages across Brisbane, regularly performing at the Brisbane Jazz Club for “Voices of Tomorrow” and “Jazz Singer Jam Nights” — accompanied by a live band that includes Calvary’s own Grace King.
Grace loves being part of the Calvary community because of its diversity. With so many different types of people across the College, she says it’s easy to find others who share your interests or vibe — there’s always someone to connect with.
As part of her musical journey, Grace has recently begun studying a Certificate II in Music Performance through the TAFE at School program. This course is giving her valuable hands-on experience and practical skills to grow as a musician, supporting her passion for live performance and future opportunities in the industry.
Grace’s performance résumé continues to grow, with highlights including singing at the Brisbane Ekka and various festive events, such as the Dunamis Christmas celebrations. She is also involved with the Calvary choir, and the Girls Ensemble Choir, and she embraced the stage as part of Calvary’s production of Shrek the Musical. Grace is already looking ahead with excitement to taking on even bigger roles in future productions.
We are so proud of Grace — her humility, dedication, and joy for music inspire us all. We can’t wait to see where her journey takes her next!
Stay tuned! There's more to come!
