Calvary Student Pathways 2024

When I look back on my own journey through school, I can't help but feel like I missed out. It's not that my teachers didn't care about my future, but rather that the options available to me in Year 11 and 12 were limited or even non-existent. The opportunities that students have today are far more diverse, interesting, and personalised. This sentiment is shared by my mother, who only had two options post-school at University, which was either Teaching or Nursing.

Education has come a long way since then, with the occasional student complaint now being that there is too much to choose from. I am proud to be part of the Calvary community, which allows for student voice and choice in regard to student study options.

There are numerous avenues for students to explore post-school, such as university, TAFE, apprenticeships, starting their own business, or contributing to the workforce. It is more important than ever to ensure that pathways at Calvary open up as many doors as possible for our young people. That is why we look at providing a large range of study options, including academic and applied subjects, certificate and diploma courses, university at school, and traineeships (internal and external).

When communicating with universities, it is apparent that there is no singular method for admission. While the traditional ATAR approach is still popular amongst many students, there are alternative pathways available, such as Certificate III guaranteed entry or early-entry based on preliminary subject results. To maximize their chances, students often opt to complete a certificate course alongside a combination of ATAR and Applied subjects. This strategy provides the opportunity to secure a place in a university course while still working towards a competitive ATAR. However, it is crucial to note that having so many options and pathways available may cause some students to lose focus on their school-based subjects. Therefore, it is important to remain engaged and develop a range of skills and knowledge across various subjects.

We are excited to share with you our new subject offerings for Year 9 & Year 11 Pathways 2024.
