Dear Parents and Carers

Thank you to everyone who attended our Parent Teacher Student Interviews last night. I appreciate everyone working with us as we had to change the venue at the last minute due to an electrical fault in our CCC (which is currently being fixed). Please remember that you do not have to wait until interview time to make contact with our teaching staff. If you ever have any concerns about how your child is progressing at school, please contact us.

Responsible reporting vs dobbing

I spoke to the Middle and Senior School at the start of this term about the difference between responsible reporting and dobbing and I would appreciate if parents could reinforce this at home where possible. Essentially, for responsible reporting, we are asking students to tell an adult if:

  • A person may hurt themselves or others
  • Mean or poor behaviour of someone else has been ongoing
  • An activity is illegal or harmful

The test question for responsible reporting: is harm occurring? If it is, tell an adult.

It falls more into the dobbing region, if:

  • It’s a one-off incident
  • The hurt toward another is minor
  • I haven’t tried to fix it myself
  • There are strategies I could use to avoid the problem/person

The test question/s for dobbing are:

  • Is this person just having a bad day? If so, give them space.
  • Will the actions keep happening tomorrow? If yes, tell someone (it’s not a one-off incident), if no, it’s probably dobbing.

Ultimately, we want our students to tell us about problematic behaviour so we can address it, but we also want our students to be resilient and be able to process/deal with low-level behaviours of others they don’t like and, as much as possible, to be people who forgive others.

Yours sincerely

Josh Wilson

Head of Middle and Senior School and Innovative Learning Design

MSS Parent Presentation 4 May 2023

On the 4th May at 6:00pm we will be hosting a parent talk with Emma Tabacaru to discuss how parents can address the topic of sexual development and personal safety with our Middle and Senior School Students. Parents who attended the Junior School event were thoroughly grateful for Emma's presentation this term and we know that this type of presentation will be incredibly valuable to our parents of teenagers.

Please note that we will be hosting a fun evening for JS/MSS students in the Cunningham Pavilion and Year 8 classrooms with a G-rated movie, chess boards, video games and a sausage sizzle. While parents receive some important information our students can be kept entertained and fed.

Year 8 Medieval Fair

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Year 8 HASS students have been hard at work preparing for their Medieval Fair, which will be held on Thursday, 4 May at 11:00am on the Anzac lawn. They have been researching a role or profession from the Middle Ages and will present their findings at the fair. Parents are welcome to join us from 11:00am – 11:30am and immerse themselves in days of yore, witnessing barber-surgeons hard at work, chatting with medieval farmers, court jesters and various tradespeople and viewing a mock battle. Parents are asked to remind their children to ensure that they have the appropriate props and costumes ready for the day.

We look forward to seeing you there.
