Final Week for Year 12 Students
Next week we welcome our Year 12 students back on campus for their final days at Calvary, leading up to their graduation ceremony. This week promises to be memorable and event-filled for our seniors as they mark the end of their high school journey. Highlights include participating in the much-anticipated annual Tommy Cup, enjoying a beach day with their cohort, and hosting the Year 12 Final Chapel. The Final Chapel will begin with a Guard of Honour formed by students from Prep to Year 11, Calvary Staff and parents of the departing Year 12 cohort who join us on the day. Mr. Heagney will provide additional details about this event to Year 12 parents in the coming days. The week’s celebrations will culminate in the valedictory and graduation ceremony on Friday, 15 November, at 5 pm in the CCC, honouring the dedication and achievements of our Year 12 class of 2024. We look forward to celebrating this significant milestone with our students and their families.
Year 10 Celebration Dinner
Our Year 10 Celebration Dinner was a memorable and inspiring event, marking the end of Year 10 and celebrating the upcoming journey into Senior School studies. This student-led event allowed students to reflect on their achievements, personal growth and bond as a larger cohort. We extend a heartfelt thank you to Julia Henalla and her team, who ensured that the evening ran smoothly and was enjoyable for all involved. Real Life Youth and Young Adults, led by Daniel Robertson, graciously served attendees at the event, making the evening even more special. We hope to make this celebration a cherished annual tradition, providing students with a meaningful opportunity to celebrate their time at Calvary and the lasting friendships they have formed before moving to their final years of schooling.
Year 11 Camp
Our Year 11 students have had an incredible experience at Emu Gully this week, where they engaged in activities focused on building leadership, perseverance, and effective communication. Under the guidance of the Emu Gully staff and our dedicated Calvary staff members, students participated in challenging exercises that promoted growth and teamwork. One highlight of the camp was a talk by Chelsea Lineham, a College Leader of Calvary in 2021 and now a team member at Emu Gully, who shared insights on leadership and personal development. We look forward to welcoming our Year 11 students back on campus tomorrow, enriched by the skills and experiences they gained during this impactful week.
Year 10 Work Experience
Our Year 10 students have been offsite this week, gaining valuable work experience across a variety of fields. This practical component of our personal development program allows students to explore careers aligned with their interests, gain insight into different professions, and make informed decisions about their future pathways. We hope that this opportunity has been an eye-opening experience for our Year 10 students as they consider their future careers and study opportunities.
Crazy Sock & Movember Fundraising
We are hosting a special fundraiser on Monday of Week 7 (November 11th): Crazy Sock & Movember Day!
Students are encouraged to wear their silliest or oddest socks and bring a gold coin donation. All funds raised will support our Child of Compassion program. During second break, students can also have a moustache painted—either on their face or finger—to join in the Movember fun. Wearing odd socks celebrates our uniqueness as creations of God, while Movember moustaches help spark important conversations about mental health.
To encourage participation, we have exciting fundraising goals! If enough money is raised, some of our Middle and Senior School teachers will do TikTok dances, buzz or dye their hair, or even wax their arms and legs. If we reach our fundraising targets, Mr. Arraiol may buzz his hair, and Mr. Merry might dye his.
Student Leadership Applications
The College is currently accepting applications for the 2025 leadership positions of Student Connectors and House Leaders from current students in Years 7–11. The closing date for these applications is Friday, 8 November 2024, at 15:20. All students will have received an email from Mr. Arraiol this week reminding them of the application process and the application deadline. These roles require dedication, responsibility, and a genuine commitment to serve the school community. We encourage parents to support their children in considering this opportunity to develop leadership skills, as it will involve a commitment of personal time and energy.
