Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope that however you were able to spend ANZAC day this week, it was special for you and your family. It was lovely to see the students participating in our school service and the local Springwood RSL March. I am here in Canberra with our Year 6 students, and today we had the absolute privilege of spending time at the Australian War Memorial. A serene and moving place to be.

This whole Canberra camp experience has been incredible. We have received high praise from many different people along the way. Virgin Airline staff complemented our students on their behaviour and manners, and staff at different venues have noticed the high level of respect and engagement of our Calvary students. It is a testament to the parent/school relationship and environments we create together as we nurture and grow the minds and hearts of our children.

LOGAN DISTRIC CROSS COUNTRY

Ten Year 4&5 students competed in today's Logan District Cross Country.  It was a little wet under foot but the students all ran well and were very happy with their results.

Congratulations to all of our students with a special mention to Emily Day, who came 2nd, and Toben McInnes who came 3rd, in their respective age groups.  These two students are through to the Regional level Competition.  We are awaiting the official results to see whether we will also be sending a couple of Year 6 students, who submitted absent times, as well.

EMMA TABACARU / YEAR 6 IMMERSION DAY

The second session with Emma Tabacaru will be held with our Year 6 students next Thursday 4 May, which coincides with a Middle School Immersion day. Further information regarding the Middle School immersion will be sent to parents tomorrow.

Parent Information session will also be held that evening and we welcome all parents to attend, no matter the age of your children.

COLLEGE LEADER INDUCTION

At our Assembly this coming Wednesday, 3 May, we will be introducing our College Leaders.  Any student in Years 3-6, who have shown that they lead by improving the lives of others at the College through continuous and ongoing service, can apply to be a College Leader.

Applications for College Leadership can be made by completing an application found at the office and returning to the Head of School. The presentation and announcement of this responsibility will happen twice a year. Any additional College leaders will be presented again at the end of Term 2.

COMMUNITY NIGHT

There are a few community events coming up this term. Please ensure you get your tickets to the upcoming Movie Night, celebrating our mothers and VIP mother figures, with a family friendly movie under the stars, and pizza from our school wood fire oven.

TUNING INTO KIDS

Our College Counsellors: Mr Byron Hunt & Mrs Alison Stone are conducting a Parenting Course that is starting soon at Springwood, it's called "Tuning into Kids" Emotionally Intelligent Parenting (Emotion Coaching). The program helps you as a parent support your children as they develop emotional intelligence and social skills, helping you navigate kids’ big emotions and challenging behaviours.

When: Six sessions, over six weeks, Two hours per session - starting in Week 3 on Friday 5th May 2023 ( 8.45am - 10.45am) – Morning Tea provided.

Who It's For: Tuning Into Kids is for parents and carers of zero to 12-year-olds who would like to learn how to respond in a healthy way to their child’s emotions.

What to Expect: The program is run in small groups with other parents. In the program you will learn how to use the practical skills of emotion coaching to help children regulate and manage behaviours. These skills help your child respond to others in socially appropriate ways.

Spaces are limited so please register your interest to Liza Steyn:  liza.steyn@calvarycc.qld.edu.au.

ATHLETICS CLUB

Mr McInnes' Tuesday morning Sports Club for this term will be an Athletics Club.  In order for this to run smoothly he would love some Parent Helpers to assist.  Please see information attached.
