Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a lovely second week of term. It is always great to connect with the students, but particularly our parents this week during Parent/Teacher Interviews. Thank you for taking time from your busy schedules to engage in meaningful conversations about your child’s progress and goals.

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to attend the Australian Christian Schools (ACS) Leadership Summit. One of many things that resonated with me was the research presented by leading social analyst and author, Mark McCrindle, on the positive impact and role of Christian schooling as more and more families are turning to Christian schooling in search of values and community. There is no substitute for the holistic education (vision for each child to grow academically, equipped with life long skills and forming strong character and faith), that Christian education provides. I am immensely proud to be a part of that and I know our staff are as well.

100 Days of Prep!

Can you believe our youngest students have already attended 100 days of school?! Starting school is a big adventure for children and for parents. Our Prep families are such a blessing and we hope you feel welcome and connected to the Calvary community. Congratulations Preppies, on your 100 days of Prep milestone!

Prep 100 Days

New Students

This Semester, we have a number of new students joining Calvary, across most Stages. We warmly welcome them and their families to our community. Our current students have excitedly helped our new students settle in and get to know the rhythms of school life here at Springwood.

Update from the Health Hub

To safeguard our students as much as possible, if your child is unwell with a temperature over 37.5 and has viral symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat or coughing, please keep them at home until symptoms improve. Students also need to be encouraged to wash their hands and cover mouths when they sneeze or cough. Any further questions or queries please feel free to contact the Health Hub.

Stage 2&3 Immersion Day / Safe On Socials

On Thursday 27 July, our Stage 2 & 3 students will be heading over to the Carbrook Campus to take part in some Middle School Immersion activities, and to hear a presentation by Safe on Socials. We have invited Safe on Social to the College to help equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their digital devices and distractions. Students from both the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools, Stages 2 – 6, will participate in age-appropriate presentations about:

    • Online safety and using social media with awareness
    • Online stranger danger and what grooming might look like and what to do
    • Group Chats and strategies to manage them better
    • Posting and sharing photos and the law
    • Respectful online relationships and consent
    • Cyber-bullying, online harassment, and how to report it
    • Online gaming safety
    • Strategies to build resilience

Science Week

Junior School Science week is happening Week 4 of this Term.

Mrs McEvoy and Mrs Handley have organised activities including experiments in classrooms, an incursion from Street Science and a couple of lunchtime events.

Students are welcome to bring in their age-appropriate investigation, to share with their peers, towards the end of the week, either in person or via a video recording.

Information will be sent home with students on Monday 24 July.
