Dear Parents and Carers,

In the education world today, there is an acknowledgement that schools need to be more than ‘academics’. What I love about Calvary is the holistic approach to education. Calvary helps young people with the tools they need to become engaged thinkers, resilient and resourceful learners, and active members of their community.

This morning I had the privilege of meeting with some parents ranging from Prep – Stage 3 to discuss areas of focus in our Junior School.  One distinctive of Calvary is our Learning Habits Framework. Mrs O’Donnell and I shared the reasons why we at Calvary are so passionate about these as we know these skills/habits are teachable, transferable, and will set our learners up for lifelong learning.

These 21st century skills are habits that will serve our students beyond their time at Calvary. As we unpack these more look out for our Parent Focus Groups, Zoom Seminars and Communications unpacking the importance of these skills further.

Below I have captured 2 of our Stage 3 Learners, Connor and Evie, brainstorming practical ideas for making sure tasks get completed. I love the “START STRAIGHT AWAY” and “Keep an eye on the time” These are 2 practical ways students can do to assist in completing tasks to the best of their ability.

Science Week – 2023

The annual Science Week celebrations took place this week in our Junior School. Science Week is not just about learning facts; it’s about nurturing a passion for discovery and a lifelong love for science. From mind-boggling experiments to awe-inspiring demonstrations, the week the student’s ignited their curiosity and appreciation for the wonders of science.

Every year we host a Calvary Science Competition that brings together students from all stage, offering them a platform to demonstrate their passion for science and problem solving. It not only celebrates academic excellence but also instils a deep appreciation for stretching your learning.

Thank you to Street Science, Mr Grant, Farmer H and all of the Junior School for their passion and enthusiasm towards Science Week. We look forward to celebrating and honouring the Science Competition winners at next week’s assembly.

Good News Week

Next week is Good News Week at the College. Good News Week is the renamed Prayer and Mission Week and the goal of the week is to acknowledge that while we so often are inundated with the bad news in the world, there is in fact good news and amazing things happening that we should focus on in addition to having the ‘Good News’ of the Gospel.

We will have a special Chapel led by Pastor Jaydon. Our JS Leaders will have opportunities to run some Good News Projects throughout the week for the Junior School Students.

  • Good Ewes (petting zoo + selling cotton candy)
  • Good Chews (bake sale),
  • Good BBQ’s and
  • Good Views (picture competition).

Email Communication with Teachers

Partnership with parents is a key aspect of ensuring your child is set up for success. We greatly value your input in your child’s learning journey. Please know that the teachers do not answer emails while they are teaching. They may respond if they have time during breaks or their non-teaching time. This is a reminder to parents that staff may take 48hrs to respond to them via email as they manage different responsibilities and priorities.

We ask that emails be kept brief, if there is a need for a longer email, it is preferred parents make a face-to-face or phone appointment.

Evening with the Principal

On 10 September at 6pm we are hosting an Evening with the Principal. Parents, this is an excellent opportunity to hear about future plans and vision for Calvary from our Principal and CEO, Mrs Cherylynne Gostelow. Please book by using the link here.

Bush Dance

Tomorrow evening the College is hosting a bush dance from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Proceeds of this event will be going towards our Year 9 service trip to Chinchilla and more specifically Drought Angels. We are very fortunate to have the very experienced and enthusiastic Beefa's Bush Band performing and hosting this event for us. Please note that there will be food and drinks on sale and a photo booth on the night to take some memorable pictures of friends and family. . Bush Dance

Hygiene Product Collection

We wish to extend a very big thank you to our Calvary Community for the wonderful support shown towards our previous Hygiene Collection for Fisher's of Men. We were able to use all the materials provided to assist Fisher's of Men to help homeless individuals in the Logan region to take better care of themselves and their loved ones.

This Term we are collecting slightly different hygiene products (as illustrated in the poster below) for our farming community. The Year9 students are travelling to Chinchilla in the last week of school this term to be of service to the Chinchilla community and present our Hygiene Product collections to Drought Angels. Drought Angels will use these donations to create care packages for farmers that are hard at work producing food for us and may not have the time or resources to care for themselves.

Year 9 students will visit Form classes regularly to collect the donations that will "Help us Help the Farmer that Feed Us". We look forward to your ongoing support for this wonderful initiative.
