Dear Parents and Carers,
Book Week
Book Week has placed the spotlight on our love of books and reading!
Although we live in a highly digital world, instilling a love of reading at an early age and encouraging children to read for enjoyment is so vital to their development. It was wonderful to see the diversity in the Book Week costumes. The week’s activities have been well attended by the students. Everything from lunch time scategories, mystery readers, scavenger hunts and outside garden library, have been greatly enjoyed by the students. I am so proud of our students for engaging so well in this wonderful week. Thanks to Mrs Ashley Wong for her time and dedication.
Our Very Own Author
I am also pleased to announce one of our talented teacher aides, Mrs Leanne Frost, has written and published her own book. She was able to share this at the Parade today.
‘Hello Butterfly’ is a story about an inquisitive little girl named Anna Grace who has a delightful encounter with a friendly butterfly. The book is not only beautifully illustrated and engaging, but also educational. It is a rhyming story that incorporates some facts about butterflies and features discussion questions and definitions for interesting words at the back of the book.
The book is available to purchase through the website – www.frostiecreative.com/hellobutterfly
Please choose the neutral option for free delivery to school.
Thank you for your support and happy reading!
Father’s Night Community Event
There are still some tickets left for our community event tomorrow evening. Father’s Day is fast approaching, and we want to take this opportunity to honour our dads and father figures.
Volleyball Cup
Next week we have 30 students from Stage 3 attending the Volley Ball Cup. Thank you to Mr Linning for his consistent training of the students. The addition of the Beach Volley Ball Courts has been great for the students to be able to practice at lunch breaks also.
Pupil Free Day
On Friday 1 September we will have a Pupil Free day at the College. This day is a day of professional development for our educators. Some of our High School staff head off campus to moderate assessment pieces with other High Schools.
Good News Week
We are thankful for the wonderful effort of our Chaplaincy team and our Stage 3 leaders for raising nearly $800 from the Good News Week activities. I also want to acknowledge the parents of the Year 6 leaders who assisted at home to make the BBQ, Fairy Floss and Bake Sale possible. Thanks for your support. Funds raised will go towards supporting our Compassion children.
Learning Habits
This term our teachers have continued to immerse the students in the explicit teaching of the Learning Habits (Skills). These skills are transferable and they set our students up as lifelong learners. This is what will help them adapt to a rapidly changing world with the challenges and opportunities their world provides.
At Calvary we know that:
- Mastery of curriculum content matters.
- Mastery of skills development matters more.
- What matters most is, formation of character and faith.
It was wonderful to speak to a new parent in the carpark one afternoon this week. Their child started in Stage 2 just 2 weeks ago. She is delighted with the change she has made for her child. She spoke so highly of the students and staff here at Calvary. Her words were the children are so kind, friendly and welcoming. This was so encouraging! Formation of character is something we pride ourselves on. We want our students, your children to leave Calvary with a positive outlook on the world and a desire to make the world a better place.
Thanks for choosing Calvary for your child!
