We understand that the end of year is a busy time for our families. With that in mind, please note to following important dates for the end of the year. There will be further communication around specific events as they approach that will include information about locations, timing and anything else that you would need to know.
Please note there has been a change in the school calendar for Year 6 Affirmation, we apologise if this has cause any inconvenience.

Science Week
Next week the Junior School are celebrating Science Week. Each Stage have planned Science experiences for your children to be involved in. We also have special parent guests coming along to share their knowledge and passion for Science with our students. If you would like to be involved, please email sandra.arraiol@calvarycc.qld.edu.au we would love to tap into the expertise of our community to bring Science alive for our students.
Netball
Last Friday, two Junior school netball teams attended the QLD Netball Gala, representing Calvary Christian College. This is the first time Calvary had competed at this tournament and competed with great determination. The netballers discovered ways to improve as a team and saw increased success as the tournament continued. We look forward to the further development of netball at Calvary with the upcoming Netball Calvary Community Cup. Well done to our players.
QLD Fire Education
On Wednesday our Stage 1 students were visited by the Fire Department. We value the partnership we have with QLD fire service to help educate our students about fire safety and also how this important emergency service benefits our community.
Safe on Social Presentation
Calvary is hosting Safe on Social, presented by Kirra Pedergast on Tuesday 27 August. Details on flyer and link below.
Calvary Friendology Program
At Calvary we use the Friendology program as the foundation for our social & emotional teaching. Friendology helps students understand common language and strategies to use when navigating friendships. Throughout the year, the counselling team deliver 8 sessions for each class, that covers topics such as:
Making friends
Friendship facts
Friend-o-meter
Friendship Fires
Mean on purpose behaviour
Tricky situations
Being kind and strong
As parents are also often coaching and guiding your children through social situations the counselling team will be running a parent session on Thursday 1st August at 9 am. The session will cover Friendology concepts, language and strategies, and child development.

Year 3-6 College Leaders
Any students who are in Year 3 – 6 who have shown that they lead by improving the lives of others at the College through continuous and ongoing service, can apply to be a College Leader.
Our final 2024 Applications for College Leadership can be made by writing a short letter to the Acting Head of Junior School.
- Outline the Leadership Initiative/Service student is involved in
- Outline of the timeframe (weekly, daily, fortnightly) of this service
- Demonstrate on ongoing commitment to this initiative or service (minimum of a term)
- Outline of how this serves and contributes to the Calvary Community
The presentation and announcement of this responsibility will happen at our Leadership Assembly Friday 6 September.

Cafe Specials - Week 5
Online Order Cut-off Times
The opportunity to order food online will close at 8:00am each morning. Please ensure any orders required for the day are completed by this time to ensure we are able to serve your student.
The Mango Cafe
The Mango Café is looking for some volunteers for the reminder of Term 3 and Term 4. The Café provides a breakfast, 1st break and 2nd break service to Students, Staff and the parent community each day of the school term.
The service we can provide is significantly impacted by the number of volunteers who are able to assist in preparing food. Are you able to help out for a morning or two per week or even per fortnight? We will provide all the training you need.
If you are interested in helping the team, please pop in to see Jules, our acting supervisor or contact her at mangocafe@calvarycc.qld.edu.au. Every offer of assistance will be warmly received.

School Refusal Data
As part of our ongoing efforts to better support our students and their families, we are conducting research into the impact of school refusal. School refusal can be a challenging experience for both children and parents and understanding its effects is crucial in helping us provide the necessary support and resources.
We are reaching out to ask for your assistance in this important research. If your child has ever experienced school refusal that caused you concern, we kindly request that you share your experiences by filling out the attached survey. Your insights will be invaluable in helping us understand the scope and nature of this issue within our school community.
Rest assured that all information provided will be kept confidential and will be used solely for this research. Your participation is entirely voluntary, however, your contribution will play a significant role in shaping the support systems we can offer towards our students and their families.

Drought Angels - Hygiene Products Collection
Our Year 9 Students are currently collecting Hygiene Product Donations to present to Drought Angels, during their end of Term 3 Service Trip to Chinchilla. Drought Angels will use these donations to create care packages for farmers who are hard at work producing food for us, and may not have the time or resources to care for themselves.
Calvary students are asked to support this mission by donating any of the following items:
- Manicure set – nail files, nail clippers, polish, cuticle oil.
- Pedicure set – foot file, toenail clippers, foot scrub, foot cream.
- Bath set – bath bomb, gel eye mask, tea light candle, body wash 400ml, body scrub max 400ml, body moisturiser 400ml max.
- Shower set – shampoo, conditioner, body wash, razor, loofa, body moisturiser.
- Bathroom accessories – elegant soap and toothbrush holders, tea light candles.
- Men’s bathroom kit – deodorant, body wash 400ml, shaving cream, razor,
- Ladies bathroom kit – deodorant, body wash 400ml, razor, dry shampoo 400ml, travel tissues.

Showcase 40th Year Celebration
We are inviting all alumnae, parents and past staff to join the band/orchestra and choir for the 40th year celebration showcase. Performance will be on Saturday 7 September at 7pm, tickets will go on sale soon.

Redlands Eisteddfod
Congratulations to our Jnr School Voices and MSS Chorale teams who competed this week in the Redlands Eisteddfod. Well done on a great performance.

Showcase - Journey Through Time
Senior Showcase is happening again on Saturday 7th September 2024 at CCC Carbrook. The concert begins at 7pm and will celebrate the 40 years of Calvary. More information coming soon.

Thursday Evening 29 August 6.30pm – 8pm at Carbrook for all students in MSS Chorale and Intermediate Band, plus any voices students that can make it. More information to come shortly.
